LAUNCH OF GHANA TOURIST GUIDE BOOK

In spite of the word economic crisis, tourism is seen as one of the fastest growing and sustainable industries in the world. It also provides more than 75 million jobs worldwide.
This came to light at the launch of a maiden book on tourism entitle: Ghana Tourist Guide in Accra today.
The guest speaker of the programme, Hon. Juliana Azumah Mensah, the Minister of Tourism, stated that, it is rewarding for Ghana’s Tourism industry to witness the invasion of private individuals and organization joining forces in a public-private partnership in a bid to promote the tourism industry in the country.
The author of the Tourism Guide book, Miss Rose Agodoa, stated that, the book is to supplement the Tourist Boards efforts and other information materials available in Ghana.
Speaking to GODWIN ALLOTEY after the programme, she however advised the youth of Ghana to stop seeking for greener pastures in foreign lands and focus their attention in promoting tourism in the country.

Great to be young!

This guy is very young and can fool around and do anything that pleases him. When he grows there are things he cannot do.

So there are advantages and disadvantages in every stage of life. The question now is YOUNG AGE AND OLD AGE: which one is more interesting?

Passengers escape unhurt as bus burn to ashes

The burnt bus

A 207 Mercedes Benz bus with registration number GW 1065 U, carrying passengers to Accra was on Thursday morning burnt beyond repairs near the Ako-Adjei Interchange on the Ring Road Central.

The passsengers however escaped unhurt.

The driver of the Benz bus, Mr. Richard Leedo told this reporter, that he saw smoke coming from the engine while approaching the Interchange. He said he stopped the bus in order to attend to the problem but the bus caught fire.

Some passengers on board told Godwin Allotey (reporter) that, the driver had no fire extinguisher and as the fire spread to the rest of the bus, there was little any one could do immediately.

A distress call to the Ghana National Fire Service some 500 meters away yield an appreciable response but the raging fire had done enough to render the vehicle useless.

The fire service which is about 500 metres from the scene, was contacted but by the time the team got there it was too late to quench the blazing fire.

Some definitions of Information Society

The information revolution and the applications of information and communication technologies are fundamental in conceptualizing information society. The concept  has been defined by various authors and writers from different perspective as to how they see it or from the angle from which they see it.
According to Dennis McQuail (1997: 87) in the information society, "information work predominates, and information is the most valuable resource".
He further notes that the characteristic of information society is an exponential increase in the production and flow of information of all kinds.
However, one may be forced to ask what information society is?
The following are the definitions as defined by some authors:

1. An information society is a society in which the creation(s), distribution, diffusion, use (of) integration and manipulation of information is a significant economic, political and cultural activity.

2. Information society refers to a situation where information and communication technologies are integrated in industrial production and information dissemination in all fields.

3. Information Society is a term for a society in which the creation, distribution, and manipulation of information has become the most significant economic and cultural activity
