Courts within Supreme Court to be closed down judgement day

Courts within the Supreme Court building and the Fast Track High Court area will not sit tomorrow, August 29, 2013, the day set aside for the delivery of judgement in the presidential election petition.

According to the management of the Judicial Service, the decision formed part of security measures instituted to ensure that security on the court premises and inside the courtroom was not compromised in any way.

30 MMDCEs nominated

Hon. Oppong Fosu, Local Govt Minister   
President John Mahama has nominated about 30 more Metropolitan, Municipal and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs).

A statement issued Monday said the nominations are in accordance with Article 243(1) of the 1992 Constitution and Section 20(1) of the Local Government Act 1993, Act 462.

President names new DCE for Jaman South Assembly

Madam Dora Ama Tamea has been named by the President as the new District Chief Executive for the Jaman South Assembly.

She takes over from Mr. Julius Atta Bediako whose mandate was not renewed by the President and was consequently asked to vacate his post and hand over administration of the Assembly to the Greater Accra Regional Minister.

Banks charge up to 5 times what they offer depositors

Despite the concerted efforts by the Bank of Ghana (BoG) to get the country’s universal banks to reduce their lending rates, which requires a reduction in the interest rate spread they demand, the latest compilations of annual percentage lending rates and average interest paid on deposits, released by the Central Bank shows that deposit money banks still insist on demanding some of the highest interest spreads in Africa.

The latest BoG survey revealing the interest rates paid and demanded by the universal banks dated July 31, 2013 shows that many banks make interest rate spreads of over 20 percent and in some cases these reach as high as 25 percent.

5 vehicular culverts completed for LEKMA –Daniel Amartey

The immediate past Municipal Chief Executive for the Ledzokuku-Krowor Municipal Assembly has said he completed five (5) major vehicular culverts within the area during his administration.

According to him, the project’s cost about GHs250, 000 each financed with the internally generated funds (IGF) which he succeeded in improving upon within the few years he served as an MCE.

Tutors and students alike in the H’ Mount Sinai Senior High School Akuapem North Municipality in the Eastern Region were beaming with smiles when an ultra-modern information Communication Technology centre was inaugurated for them in a short but impressive ceremony.

The 70-seater ICT centre was initiated by the Preston College of United Kingdom in collaboration with the Parent Teacher Association (PTA) of the H’ Mount Sinai Senior High School.

Kintampo South MP funds electricity project for 6 communities

Six communities within the Kintampo South Constituency will very soon be connected to the national power grid to offer them the opportunity to also enjoy all the benefits that comes along with such facilities.

The project which was funded by the Member of Parliament for the area, Hon. Yaw Effa-Baafi is aimed at creating an enabling environment to boost the economic status of residents in those communities.

Ga Cental PM accuses Ga South, Ga West Assemblies of encroachment

Presiding Member of the Ga Central Municipal Assembly, Mr. Sheriff Abdul Fathah has accused two Municipal Assemblies namely Ga South and Ga West Municipals for encroaching into their territory to collect revenue.

According to Mr. Sheriff, they have on several occasions spotted revenue collectors from those to Assemblies actively discharging their duties within their territory.

“Their revenue collectors sometimes come to Sowutuom, which is our capital to collect revenue from traders and other business owners,” he asserted.

He said the warning was rooted in the divisive and intransigent posturing of the parties involved in the electoral dispute which the Supreme Court is expected to give its verdict on on August 29, 2013.
